To the Excelsior Springs School Community,

It is with great excitement and enthusiasm that I have accepted the position as the new Principal of Lewis Elementary for the 2020-2021 school year!  I have been in the Excelsior Springs School District for two years and have thoroughly enjoyed the experiences I have had at the Middle School level. Those experiences have opened my eyes to the many challenges our youth face, and I look forward to effectively supporting our elementary students as they learn, grow and develop into young adults.

I was raised in Blue Springs, Missouri where I attended the Blue Springs School District, graduating in 1998.  I went on to receive my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Columbia University.  After working a few years in the business world, I realized I wanted to follow my passion for teaching and learning and went back to school to earn my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.  I have always believed in being a lifelong learner and truly feel that as educators we can never stop learning.  After graduating in May of 2005, I started my career teaching Kindergarten at Prairie Branch Elementary, in the Grain Valley School District.

I knew pretty quickly in my educational career that I wanted to become an educational leader.  I have always enjoyed supporting my colleagues and have always sought-out ways to help make a greater impact, not only with my students but with the staff as well.  This desire led me to earn my Master’s Degree in Elementary Administration from the University of Central Missouri in 2009.  In 2012, I became an Assistant Principal supporting both Stony Point and Sni-A-Bar Elementary buildings in Grain Valley.  The experiences I have received during the last two years at the middle school, combined with those from Lexington and Grain Valley, have been incredibly valuable.  I am excited about the opportunity to build-upon and leverage what I have learned to aid in leading students and staff through their educational journeys at the elementary level in Excelsior Springs.

I am currently in my 15th year of education and I cannot imagine investing in a career doing anything else.  I have a passion for educating students, supporting families and helping grow educators.  I am married with two amazing children of my own, my son Finley (12) who spends all his time memorizing lines and perfecting songs for the myriad musicals in which he performs.  My daughter Phoebe, (10) who enjoys basketball, volleyball and fashion, and my step-son, Carson (12) who is involved in archery, baseball, basketball and enjoys learning how to play the guitar.   As you can imagine life gets a little hectic at times … but we love it!

I look forward to meeting the families of our Lewis Elementary students and supporting the staff as we face the considerable task of educating each child in an ever changing environment.
