Dear Excelsior Springs School Community,

I am excited that life has brought me back to the community where my education career began nearly 25 years ago as I have accepted the principal position at Westview Elementary School.

My name is Brian Sloan. I grew up in Kearney, Missouri and was a graduate of Kearney High School in 1989. After graduation, I went on to attend the Missouri Western State University where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. Upon graduation, I was hired for my first teaching experience by the Excelsior Springs Schools as a fifth grade teacher at Roosevelt Elementary School in 1993. It was there that my love for helping kids and building relationships began.

Since then, I have taught and been a school administrator in the communities of Orrick, Lee’s Summit, and Kearney, Missouri for the past 24 years. I earned two additional degrees from the University of Central Missouri; Master’s Degree in Elementary Administration and an Education Specialist Degree in the Superintendency.

I have been married to my wife Diane for 25 years. Diane is an elementary teacher in Kearney and has been teaching first grade for nearly 28 years. We have two sons, Grant and Vaughn. Grant is a sophomore at the University of Wyoming where he is studying Economics and Accounting and is a member of the Cowboys men’s swim team. Vaughn is a junior at Kearney High School where he enjoys studying technology and is also a member of the Bulldog’s varsity men’s swim team.

I am looking forward to getting reconnected with the Excelsior Springs school community and its students and families. More so, I am thrilled about the direction that this school district is moving and think there will be many exciting times ahead for our students and staff.

I cannot wait to be a part of these innovative changes and to build those positive school relationships with all who are involved in helping students. Especially those who are a part of Westview Elementary School family.

Go Tigers!
