Excelsior Springs Middle School’s Andy Morris Named Missouri Council for the Social Studies Middle School Teacher of the Year

Excelsior Springs, MO – Excelsior Springs Middle School is proud to announce that social studies teacher Mr. Andy Morris has been named the 2025 Missouri Council for the Social Studies (MCSS) Middle School Teacher of the Year. This prestigious award recognizes Mr. Morris for his outstanding contributions to civics education and his dedication to developing students as engaged and critical thinkers.

Mr. Morris has built a reputation for creating innovative and thought-provoking lessons that inspire students to explore the foundations of citizenship, democracy, and government. Through hands-on activities, simulations, and interactive discussions, he encourages students to think critically about the world around them and their role as active citizens. His passion for education extends beyond the classroom, fostering a learning environment where students develop the skills necessary to become informed and responsible members of society.

In addition to his exceptional teaching, Mr. Morris leads the school’s daily news broadcast through his broadcasting class. Under his guidance, students research, produce, and present news segments that keep their peers informed about current events, school activities, and important issues. This program not only enhances students’ media literacy but also provides them with real-world experience in journalism and public speaking.

“Mr. Morris is a true asset to our school and community,” said Dr. Brett Coffman, principal of Excelsior Springs Middle School. “His dedication to civic education and his ability to engage students in meaningful discussions about government and society are remarkable. He empowers students to think independently, ask questions, and take an active role in their education and community. We are incredibly proud of his achievements and this well-deserved recognition.”

The Missouri Council for the Social Studies presents this award annually to educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching social studies and a commitment to fostering civic responsibility in students. Mr. Morris was honored this week at the MCSS conference in St. Charles, Mo, where he was recognized for his contributions to education.

Excelsior Springs Middle School congratulates Mr. Morris on this outstanding achievement and thanks him for his continued dedication to shaping the next generation of informed and engaged citizens.
