Eligibility process for screening and identification of students

for Bright Ideas (gifted) program

·        First and second graders will be considered for Bright Ideas screening.  If a higher grade level student transfers into the district and through record review is a possible candidate for the program, they may go through the same screening process as first and second graders.

·        Initial selection of students for screening for the Bright Ideas program is determined through review of the second semester district reading and math achievement assessment.

·        Students who score at or above the 85th percentile on the reading and math assessment will move to the next step in the process.

·        Students who do not pass the screening may be screened one more time the following year during the screening period (end of school year).

·        At the beginning of the next school year, students who score at or above the 85th percentile on the reading and math assessment will be administered a standardized individual achievement test.

·        If the student’s achievement score is at or above the 95th percentile, the student will be administered a standardized creativity test.

·        If the student’s creativity score is at or above the 95th percentile, the student will be administered an intelligence test.  If the student’s intelligence test score is at or above the 95th percentile, the student is eligible to participate in the Bright Ideas program.
